FEATURES
The FINAL FANTASY series has always set the benchmark for what Role-Playing Games should be and FINAL FANTASY VIII is no exception. A revolutionary new Battle System has been created to add more customization to your characters by way of the Junction System. I. Minimum System Requirements
The minimum system requirements to run FINAL FANTASY VIII PC are:
Computer: Must be Intel or 100 Intel compatible.
CPU: With 3D Accelerator: Pentium 200MHz or equivalent (Pentium II 266MHz is recommended).
Without 3D Accelerator (i.e. software rendering): Pentium II 266MHz.
Video Card: 8MB Direct3D-compatible 3D accelerator for 3D hardware accelerator. 4MB SVGA Video Card for software rendering.
Sound Card: DirectMusic and DirectSound compatible sound card.
CD-ROM: 8X CD-ROM
Memory: 32MB of RAM (64MB is recommended)
DirectX: Microsoft DirectX 6.1 or later is required to be installed to play FINAL FANTASY VIII PC. DirectX 6.1 is included on the installation CD.
HDD Space: FINAL FANTASY VIII PC requires at least 300MB of hard drive space to install. In addition, the player may install Optional Game Data which will enhance the speed of the screen transitions. However, this requires an additional 300MB. The player will also need to have enough disk space for the Save Games and Windows Swap file

Important: This is from my personal experience and I hope it helps:
In Disc 3 , in the romantic scene between Squall and Rinoa in the Ragnarok (after talking to Esthar air station), the game should play "Eyes on me" song during the whole scene (starting when Squall turns off the artificial gravity).
I noticed that if you mount disc 3, you won't be able to hear the song (I don't know why). I tested the mounted CD on Media Player (not classic) as a music CD and the track including the song played well.
If you burned disc 3, the game will play the song normally. Burning or mounting doesn't affect saved games, meaning you can switch between the actual and virtual CD and load your previously saved game.

Mounting CDs FIX
For the users who mount the CDs, here's the solution:
Press Start and go to Run, type in regedit, drop down the following folders on the left side, hkeylocalmachine, software, square soft inc, final fantasy viii then click on 1.00.
over to the right in the main box now, right click on datapath and select modify, change the drive letter to what ever CD drive your using followed by :, ie f: and it will work fine, and to the problem with a missing disk is solved.

If you can't find the value "Datapath" in "hkeylocalmachine, software, square soft inc, final fantasy viii, 1.00", change "Datadrive" instead (in Windows VistaSeven x32).
If it is Vista/Seven (x64), then instead of HKEYLOCALMACHINESOFTWARESquare Soft, IncFINAL FANTASY VIII1.00
Look in :
HKEYLOCALMACHINESOFTWAREWow6432NodeSquare Soft, IncFINAL FANTASY VIII1.00
If you can't find this one too, you will have to BURN the discs to blank CDs. It will work fine even without using the launcher nor changing anything in the registry.
Note: For future notice. Anything that is Vista/Seven 64bit (x64) after SOFTWARE add Wow6432Node between it and whatever else is there (in this case Square Soft, Inc).
If you still getting the "Wrong disc" error, please read the nvidia fix section below. If your graphics card is not nvidia, download the non-GeForce patch from "Another patches from FilePlanet.com" section just below and follow the instructions normally.
NVidia FIX
If you have NVidia videocard you might end up getting stupid black boxes, here's the fix for that:

How to use it:
1. Unrar the Nvidia patch into game directory (replace all of the files)
2. Install Microsoft Visual C 2008 Redistributable Setup
3. Unrar FF8 Launcher v.1.31 into a folder of your choice.
I put the files in the game directory)
Note: the launcher files shouldn't be put in the game folder directly, but to any other folder even as a subdirectory of the game folder itself.
4. Run FF8Launcher.exe (Run as Administrator), choose your resolution,
activate 8-bit pallets texture fix and if you're using a widescreen
resolution also activate Stretch 4:3 Aspect Ratio.

FFVIII Character Editor
With this tool, you can do a lot of things. You can get Squall's "Lion Heart" weapon from the begining and add or delete specific kinds of magic (Even the rare ones), modify every thing about any character (Strengh mod, Vitality mod, Magic mod . etc), you can edit your character's HP, Name, Exp . etc (Even if the character that you want to edit is a GF).
The best way to know what you can to do is doing it and trying it by your self.
The tool is very easy to use, all what you need to do is:
1) Run the tool (Run as Administrator in Vista/Seven).
2) Press "Open" and locate the "Save" folder, where the save file that you want to edit is (Default path is "C:Program FilesSquare Soft, IncFINAL FANTASY VIIISave" slot1 or slot2).
3) Double click on the file "Open", and the edit panel will appear.
